Last winter, my wife and I spent four days in AlUla, in the north-west of Saudi Arabia. I had seen photos on social media, but nothing prepared me for how beautiful it really is.
On our first morning, we visited Hegra, the country's first UNESCO . More than 2,000 years ago, the Nabataeans over a hundred huge into the golden rocks. Our explained that the same people also built the famous city of Petra in Jordan.
The next day, we bikes and rode through the old town, a of houses where people lived until the 1980s. In the afternoon, we visited Elephant Rock, a giant natural rock that really does look like an elephant. We sat there and watched the sun go down while the sky turned purple.
Our favourite experience, though, was in the desert. Far away from city lights, the sky was full of stars. If you are looking for a destination that mixes history, nature and adventure, I AlUla.
