Social media has become a big part of our daily lives. With a few taps on our phones, we can share photos, videos and ideas with people all over the world. Like most teenagers, I use social media every day. In my opinion, it has some wonderful advantages, but it also has serious disadvantages that we should not ignore.

First of all, social media keeps families and friends close. My older brother Faisal is studying in Australia, but we chat with him almost every day and see his photos in our family group. Social media is also a great place to learn. I follow an account that teaches a new English expression every day, and I learned how to bake bread from a cooking account. It can even help people earn money. Two years ago, my aunt started selling her homemade sweets online, and now she has customers in many cities.

On the other hand, social media can steal our time without us noticing. Last month, I checked the screen time on my phone, and I was shocked: I was spending almost four hours a day on these apps! Another problem is that people usually share only the best moments of their lives, so we start comparing ourselves with others and feel unhappy. Moreover, some users write unkind comments that hurt others, and some share their personal photos and location without thinking about who can see them.

Since then, I have turned off most notifications and limited myself to one hour a day. Now I have more time for reading, sleeping and my family. In conclusion, social media is neither completely good nor completely bad. It all depends on us: we should control it and never let it control us.
