إذا أنهى شخص المكالمة فجأة وأنت تتكلّم نقول: He hung up on me. أي «أغلق الخط في وجهي». وعكسه pick up بمعنى «يردّ على الهاتف».

نقول بالعربية «أغلق الخط»، لكننا لا نقول بالإنجليزية close the phone، بل hang up.
