فعل قابل للفصل: يمكن أن يأتي المفعول به بين الفعل والحرف، ويجب أن يأتي في الوسط إذا كان ضميراً.

1.يتبيّن، يرى أو يسمع أو يقرأ بصعوبة
to see, hear, or read something with difficulty

كانت العاصفة الترابية شديدة حتى إننا لم نستطع تبيّن المباني على الجانب الآخر من الشارع.
2.يفهم، يستوعب

ملاحظات مهمة للمتعلم العربي
يأتي غالباً مع can أو could وفي النفي: I can't make out what he's saying. أي «لا أستطيع أن أتبيّن ما يقوله». ومع الشيكات نقول make a check out to + اسم المستفيد، وcheck هي التهجئة الأمريكية، أما البريطانية فهي cheque. وانتبه: لا تستخدم make out بلا مفعول، فله في العامية الأمريكية معنى آخر غير مناسب.
